I'd say that was very clever. Ground is far to dodgy to be tramping about on unnecessarily, that allows you to do the lot in one go.
As you suggest a bit of a faff with having to drag the box then release it, dig again etc but the pipe, stone, done without contamination.

could do with wider tracks :D i would agree with Rob ideal for dodgy ground :)

Think I've found a project. Perfect thing for firing in alkathene, perhaps even cables and sanding them without too much faffing.

Looks a good bit of kit for really soft ground. Looking at the chain on the front I guess he is able to hook this with the bucket and pull it along as he goes.

Grah there is a Box section setup on the front toe to pull it with.

The back panel slides up and down as well so you can adjust the height of fill

Looks a good idea class project anyone?

Angle iron or box section in the bottom bit that the pipe feeds through?

Looks the mutt's nuts actually and not the faff I thought it might be!!
Looks like the tube he pulls it along with, in the bottom of the trench also forms a slot for the pipe to sit in too!!

Seen something simular before, that had stablelizing arms on it to keep it level.
Good idea thou gets the pipe and stone in before the sides have a chance to colapse.
