One day Taf will be immaculate again. But it's one of a number of slow rebuilds where doing (when grandfather packed up agri + plant contracting the machinery was kept for the future). It has it's plus sides though. We have drilled holes into the cab frame and oil it from the inside to try and get the setscrews that hold the remains of the mudguards on off.

Lovely tractor though and it has a rather large hold on me. It's pretty impressive how effortlessly it'll move things around.

One thing I want to source is some photos of it back in the day. If you know of any? apparently margrate thatcher was photo'd on it?

I will try and contact you tommorow about the JD as it would be nice to have a complete set. Much appreciate you getting back to me, I forgot about the post count thing

I was told that at one time they only had one engine for the Leylands when they were plated that would pass the emissions test. How many times the same engine was tested in different trucks I've no idea!
It reminds me of the 6 wheel Seddon Atki that was on that job in the photos. It came in the gate with the first load of the morning with the roof mounted CB aerial hanging down by the side of the cab. The driver shook his head and said 'They only put it on this morning'
He pulled up the yard and tried to select reverse when part of the gear linkage cried 'enough'. I pushed it back with the machine so he could tip the load off it. He got the body part way up, moved forward a bit, the tailboard hooked a BIG piece of concrete and pulled the pivot brackets off one side of the body. It wasn't the driver's fault he was just having 'one of those days'. We lifted the tailboard off, tipped the load and managed to clamp the tailboard back on it. The driver borrowed the phone to call the office and explained he had no tailboard and no reverse. The response? Yep, you guessed it! 'Can you carry on?'

the old bill pulled one out side the tip my Dad was on ,only for the driver to come hot footing it across the tip

Best apoligise to tony for wasting his time for a moment, as I was shanghi'd by mum when I attempted to ring him as to the fact we have two "Repairable" 450's already and that if I am to spend money on plant it oughta be stuff I can get on hire easily. Apoligies but sometime in the near future I will get in touch I hope... as I hopefully have some farm track work coming

That's OK Rory, no problem. It's not going anywhere. Give me a ring one day if you're coming down this way. You can come and have a look, have a go and show me how to drive it. There's no obligation to have it and spending money won't be a problem. There is one hell of a lot of work to get the thing back anything like it should be, you're probably better off sticking with what you've already got. The whole carriage is virtually completely shot. In the mean time I'll carry on using it for tracking hardcore now and then. I'm glad I spent Sunday running it up, something I'd been going to do for 3 years! Should have been putting filters and a hydra clamp seal in the 3CX, anyhow it was a good day.
