Re: 5 ton mini excavator hire rates
Trouble is we live on a small island that has too much of everything for anyone to make a sensible living. We really wont hire out cheaply.
At one time the rates for excavators was roughly £1 per tonne.
Mini machines tended to be self drive and their size and weight didn't dictate the hire rate, the cost of operator did.
Take a 1.5 tonne mini, selfdrive at £60 per day £6 per hour. Now put an operator on it and fuel in it.
An operator needs to be costed at £12/hr and fuel for the day including storage and filling, £3/hr. so now we are at £21 per hour, a bit more that £1 a tonne per hour.
Now we have a hire rate of £32 per hour for a 21 tonne machine including the operator, it can and will use at least 200 hundred litres of fuel a day thats £14 per hr. £460/day. £26.50/ hr for a 5 tonne machine is the going rate, but add fuel and delivery.
I can hire a 6 tonne zaxis for £70/day and did last may/june. add operator and fuel again and you only have £24.50 and the owner/hirer is making money at
We have been just been quoted £163,000 for a new £40 tonne excavtor,
The best rate we can expect will be £46/hr on day shift.
On a busy day it will use £280 quids woth of fuel so £74 per hr. It can load upto 4,000 Cubic metres in one day for £740 so in my book £245 per day is about right for a five tonner. I know it's horses for courses etc and the 5 or 6 ton machine can do jobs the big girl can't, but pound for pound the figures seem ok to me.
Jumping the gun is not a wise move ......
