Default Caterpillar D16

I have been hearing more and more about a Cat D16 dozer that will take the king of dozers crown from Komatsus 575...does any one else know awt about it?

No not a D12...the thing is suposed to be so big it jumps through to a D16 rating.

not heard a thing , but would it not be a D12 next
i was told that due to such a low volume of sales for such a machine it was not really viable ,but who knows

How does the numbering system work on CAT dozers then? I had presumed it was just a model number.

I remember many years ago taking a diesel mechanic course and somebody trying to convince me that Cat had a D12 in production I naturally said to him that's 'bullshit'! lol And still to this day I have never seen a picture or heard anything about a D12 or D16 for that fact of the matter. I suppose it's possible Cat had considered or even studied a larger machine, but considering Komatsu has only sold a small number of D575 under 20 according to Wikipedia. I would think the operating costs for such a large dozer would be astronomical considering fuel consumption and the longevity of undercarriage components working in rocky ground where machines like that would usually be found.

Cat doesn't list a D12 on their page, but Caterpillar D12 motor graders were acquired by Denmark in 1954/55.

That picture shows a machine no bigger than a D11.
